Building a Black Hills Custom Home from Out of State: How iLevel Closes the Distance

Most of our owners do not live in the Black Hills yet
A meaningful share of our custom home builds are for owners who currently live in another state. Texas, Colorado, the upper Midwest, Florida, California. They are building a legacy home, a retirement property, or a second home in the Hills, and they are doing it from a distance that makes drop-in visits expensive and infrequent.
That is the build profile we have built our whole process around. The toolchain is not an afterthought. It is the way the project actually runs.
Ressio for live budget and schedule visibility
Ressio is our client portal. Owners log in from anywhere and see the live state of their build. Budget against quote, by line item. Schedule against plan, by phase. Photos uploaded by the PM after every site visit. Documents organized by the build phase they belong to.
The point of Ressio is not that it generates a monthly report. It is that the owner can answer their own question, at the moment they have it, without writing an email and waiting for the answer. That cuts the friction of building from a distance more than any single other tool we use.
3D Vista scans at every framing and rough-in milestone
We scan the house at framing, at mechanical rough-in, at electrical rough-in, and at plumbing rough-in. The scans live on a viewer the owner can walk through from anywhere. They can stand inside the framed-out kitchen, look at the plumbing on the wall, see where the cabinet runs will sit, and know exactly what is behind the drywall before the drywall goes up.

For remote owners, the 3D Vista scans are the closest thing to walking the site themselves. We have had owners flag a switch placement that was easier to move during rough-in than after finish. Starlink Roam for remote site connectivity
Some of our jobsites are an hour outside Belle Fourche. Harding County. Northwest Wyoming. Rural Perkins. The cell coverage is uneven. We carry Starlink Roam on every active jobsite, which means our PM can do a video call from the framing platform without losing signal, upload a scan from the truck, or pull a drawing in the field. The owner gets the same quality of communication on a Camp Crook build as they would on a Belle Fourche build.
Weekly PM Zooms and a project manager who actually visits
The tools are necessary but they are not enough. Every active build gets a weekly PM Zoom with the owner. The PM walks through what happened that week, what is happening next week, what decisions are coming up, and what flagged risks need attention. The agenda lives in Ressio and the recording is filed there afterward.
On top of that, the PM is on every active jobsite multiple times a week. The combination of physical presence at the site, the live documentation in Ressio, the scan archive in 3D Vista, and the weekly synchronous conversation is what makes a remote build feel local. The owner is never the last one to know.
