How iLevel Uses Technology to Manage Your Custom Home Build

iLevel Construction · Belle Fourche, SD · Custom Home Building

Most builders will tell you they communicate well. Fewer have the systems to prove it. iLevel was built around documentation-first culture from day one. The founder’s engineering background produced a belief that a process is only as good as its documentation. The technology stack we use is the infrastructure that makes our process visible, trackable, and transferable to the client. Each tool solves a specific problem that the construction industry has historically handled poorly.

Ressio: The Client Portal

Ressio is a construction project management platform built specifically for the residential custom home market. Every iLevel project runs in Ressio from the pre-construction phase through project closeout. What clients see in the portal:

  • Schedule: Current project schedule with phase status. You can see where you are in the build at any time without calling to ask. Phase completions update in real time as work progresses.
  • Budget vs actuals: The project budget broken down by division, with actual costs posting as invoices are processed. You see what concrete actually cost, what framing actually cost, what your plumber actually invoiced. The transparency is the point.
  • Daily logs and photos: Site activity and photo documentation updated by the project manager. An out-of-state client can see what happened on their site on any given day without being there.
  • Change orders: Every scope or cost change generates a documented change order in Ressio. You see the description, the reason, and the cost impact. You approve or decline. Work on changed scope does not proceed without your approval.
  • Selections tracker: Material selections needed from you are listed with their deadlines. Nothing becomes a last-minute scramble because lead times are tracked against the project schedule from the start.
  • Document storage: Contracts, permits, submittals, and construction documents are stored in the project file. Everything is in one place.

The Ressio portal is accessible from any device. You do not need to install anything. Our technology page has more detail on how the platform works on an active project.

3D Vista: Virtual As-Built Documentation

Before drywall goes up, we document the entire structure with immersive 3D scans using 3D Vista. The scans capture every room, every mechanical space, and every structural bay as a navigable virtual tour. The result is a complete record of the building’s condition before the walls close. What this enables:

  • Out-of-state clients can walk the space on their laptop before framing is enclosed. If a mechanical rough-in runs differently than the drawing showed, you see it before it is behind drywall.
  • Future reference for the lifetime of the structure. If you need to know where a plumbing line runs or where electrical is routed, the pre-drywall scan has it. Most homeowners lose this information permanently once the walls close.
  • Warranty and quality verification. We document the structure before enclosure. If a question ever arises about what was built and how, the answer is in the scan.

The virtual tour remains accessible for at least one year after project completion. The full image set is delivered at closeout. This is documentation as a deliverable, not a marketing bullet point.

Chief Architect: In-House Design and Drafting

iLevel handles architectural design in-house using Chief Architect, a professional 3D design and drafting tool used across the residential construction industry. Having design and construction under the same roof eliminates the coordination gap that creates errors between the architect’s drawings and the builder’s intent. It also speeds the iteration cycle during pre-construction: when a client wants to see what a different kitchen layout looks like, we can produce it without a three-week wait for a third-party revision.

Design work through Chief Architect produces: schematic floor plans and elevations for client review and approval; permit-ready construction documents with engineering coordination; 3D renderings of spaces for client visualization before any physical work begins; and material quantities for pre-construction budget accuracy.

Bluebeam: Plan Markup and Document Control

Bluebeam is a plan markup and document collaboration tool used for revision tracking, RFI (Request for Information) management, and annotated submittal reviews. It creates an audit trail of every decision and change that touches the construction documents. When a subcontractor asks a question about a detail and we issue a clarification, that exchange is documented in Bluebeam rather than in a text message that disappears. Document control is not paperwork for its own sake. It is the difference between a project that has clear answers and one that has unclear memory.

QuickBooks Online: Job Costing and Financial Transparency

Every invoice on an iLevel project is coded to a CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) division in QuickBooks Online. This produces a job cost report that breaks costs by division throughout the build. Under our cost-plus structure, budget vs actual is not a general ledger number. It is a line-by-line accounting of what each phase of construction actually cost. Clients with construction loan draw inspections benefit from this directly: the draw documentation is accurate and auditable because the underlying bookkeeping is coded correctly. Call us at (605) 638-3040 or through the contact page to see how this works on a live project.

Starlink Roam: Field Connectivity

Many Black Hills and Wyoming sites are in areas with limited cellular or broadband coverage. Starlink Roam provides portable satellite internet that we deploy on remote sites. This keeps the project management systems online in the field, supports real-time photo uploads to Ressio, and enables video calls with clients from a site that would otherwise have no connection. It is a practical tool for the geography we build in.

Build Technology Questions

Do I need to set up or pay for Ressio separately?

No. Ressio is included in our project management process. You receive client access to your project’s Ressio portal as part of working with iLevel. You access it through a web browser on any device. No setup cost, no software installation.

Can I see the 3D Vista scan before I decide to commit to the project?

We can show you a sample scan from a completed project (with client permission) during an introductory conversation so you understand what the documentation looks like. The 3D Vista scan for your specific project is taken before drywall on your build.

What if I want to make design changes after seeing the Chief Architect renderings?

That is exactly why we produce renderings during pre-construction. Seeing a 3D representation of your space before construction starts is significantly less expensive than making the same change during framing. We iterate the design during pre-construction. Changes after permit issuance require plan amendments and cost more. Our process front-loads the design decisions deliberately.

How does the change order process work in Ressio?

When a change to scope or budget is identified, the project manager creates a documented change order in Ressio describing the change, the reason, and the cost impact. You receive a notification, review the change order in the portal, and approve or decline. Work on the changed scope does not start until you approve. There is no ambiguity about what you agreed to.

Is all of this technology available for projects in Wyoming as well?

Yes. Ressio, 3D Vista scans, Chief Architect drawings, and QuickBooks job costing are part of every iLevel project regardless of location in our service area. Starlink Roam is particularly relevant for Wyoming sites in Crook and Weston counties where cellular coverage is limited.
